Maddeningly addictive block-matching game

I've tested out at least four million games involving colored bricks in my time as a software reviewer. Amazingly, I generally get enjoyment out of the genre after all these years.

LineUp is one of those games where you need to touch groups of three or more same-colored blocks in order to get rid of them and stop the board from overflowing. A row of new blocks is added to the pile every few seconds, and the time it takes for these to be added speeds-up as the game goes on.

It's a pretty tried-and-trusted format, and LineUp is just as addictive as the next block-busting game. The developer has tried to spice things up a bit by adding features such as a randomly-appearing laser that shoots entire lines, and applying a tap limit. The inclusion of 'speed cycles' helps to add a bit more variety to an otherwise repetitive game.

I felt the touch controls in LineUp were a little fiddly, and the pieces seemed just that wee bit small for the game to be completely comfortable to play. Nevertheless, it's the kind of thing you get used to and it by no means completely ruins the gameplay.

LineUp won't amaze you with any new and original gaming concepts but it's still a gripping puzzle game that'll keep you glued to your iPhone.
